Twitter How is it Different

I have only been using Twitter for the last few weeks but I am still struggling to find what the difference is between Twitter and other social media applications. They all have followers. Basically, everyone on one social media app is on the other social media app. When I try to research the difference between Facebook and Twitter I find an article that talks about the only major issue and that is money. It is an older article but seems to help prove my point. Check out this website for a little more details.

Twitter helps prove my point when they increased the character length from its original 140 to 280. This is a benefit for most people using twitter but it really makes it more like Facebook.

Both Twitter and Facebook and post pictures. All social media apps can use a #hashtag but seem to be a little more popular with Twitter.  All social media apps have a way to like a post, tweet, picture or whatever it is called on a certain app.

The one major difference I have found I think is because of how I use it. I find Twitter is more on a professional level and the other apps more on a personal level. I think this could be because of how I set it up. This may not be a major difference but it could be the best way to use the apps. Use an app for business/work and another for pleasure. These apps could come very beneficial not because of how they work but instead on how we set them up and use them. If we can stick one app to one meaning and not mix it, it could be a huge benefit to our work or school. If you currently have all these social media apps I would suggest finding different ways to use each one.

The work at finding the difference will continue for me but I will continue to use Twitter only for a professional way because I find this to be the biggest and best difference.

  1. Twitter is definitely more on a professional level in my opinion also. I do not feel that you can leave comments and have entire conversations with people in the reply section like you can on Facebook. I am still not convinced that I will keep my twitter account once this class is over....

  2. I've had Facebook for years but never Twitter until this class. The major difference I have seen with my Facebook account that I don't see on Twitter, is the drama. I think there is way more drama and arguing on Facebook..from news post to politics, anonymity is thought to be found behind a computer screen?! I truly don't get it! But Jeff, I think you are correct. My Facebook network is set up as personal and my Twitter as professional so that could be why there's a difference!

  3. I have found that Twitter provides professional forums which to Tweet, Like, Follow, and respond to the author. Selecting the personal intended use for each social networks provides a go to for trending and the latest from who is on our following list. I find the instant information on Tweets provides ready to use information with the link. Twitter has become a useful tool, one that totally took me by surprise.
