PLN's
Personal Learning Networks or PLN's is something someone develops to help put all learning information in one place. When I first started my PLN was overwhelming. There are some much information and so many different websites that I didn't even know where to start. I decided to what I thought was best and that was to start by researching what someone else thought a PLN was in their opinion. I read the PLN blog post provided in class. These helped considerably in my understanding of a PLN. I then did what most everyone does and I Google PLN's. I came across a couple websites that gave some great tips to developing a PLN.
One of the readings in class that I paid close attention to was the Why Learning through Social Network is the Future. I studied this reading the most for a couple reasons. The first is my daughters basically live and die by social media. Social Media is huge right now and I think that it is only going to grow because of the importance of it to the next generation. I think social media could very easily be used to learning in an informal way. A simple social media post can spread all kinds of knowledge. I also was paying close attention to this reading because I have heard multiple times that people lose a job or don't get a job because of their social media accounts. It is an easy way for managers to learn who the true individual is that they are working on hiring. This is something everyone needs to be aware of when posting on social media. Someone that makes a good post and maybe even show off skills or awards may get them a position over another candidate. An individual needs to learn that social media can be used in numerous ways to develop an individual.
Don't ever forget that when dealing with social media once you post it, it is always there one way or another.

I am glad I am not the only one that was overwhelmed at the beginning. l thought it would be a lot harder than it really has been up to this point. I started with the readings that were provided in our Framework, and they provided great information that seemed to clarify what we would be doing this semester. I kept going back to the article "Why Learning through Social Networks is the Future" because I think this is an important topic to consider. I definitely agree with what you said about social media being an informal way of learning. I personally get on social media multiple times a day, and I think it is just something that has become part of the younger generations daily lives.
ReplyDeleteI like how you mentioned the fact that people have lost a job or didn't get a job because of their social media accounts. I have heard of potential employers friending potential employees on Facebook to make sure they have "credible" social media posts before hiring them. Where do you draw the line between personal and professional lives? I think this is going to be an increasing issue in the future.
